About Barbra Streisand and The Way We Were

 

Barbra Streisand was just coming off I Can Get It for You Wholesale and starting production of Funny Girl, about Fanny Brice, the classic clown of the Ziegfeld Follies. Barbra had her own rehearsal pianist, but on occasion I'd play for her. When I played for most singers, I was happy if the singer, song and pianist created a professional sound. But it was much more than that with Streisand. I was a musician finding another musician who combined an original spirit with a voice that seemd like a sound from above.
